South Cumbria Musical Festival Wins High Honors

ULVERSTON, UK (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Britain’s South Cumbria Musical Festival has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence by the Britain and Ireland Federation of Music Festivals for providing a high standard of music, song and dance for the Furness public for over 30 years.

The award was officially presented to festival officials after the funeral of their inspirational chairwoman Aprille Bonner. Although the award has been a closely-guarded secret, festival officials revealed that Bonner had been told of the award prior to going into the hospital with failing health, according to the North-West Evening Mail.

Marilyn Larcombe, a close friend and vice-chairman of SCMF, told the paper that, “Three representatives of the Britain and Ireland Federation of Music Festivals attended Aprille’s funeral.

“And afterwards at the Lisdoonie Hotel they presented the South Cumbria Musical Festival with a Certificate of Excellence.

“It’s the first time any festival in Britain has been awarded this certificate, which we will hold for three years.

“It was quite something to be the first to receive the certificate of excellence for the best practice at a musical festival in Britain. Apparently Aprille did know about it; officials had told her about this before she’d gone into the hospital.

“I’m so pleased Aprille knew about this award.”

The Federation presented the award to Aprille’s daughers, Clair and Liane, along with Larcombe. A moment of silence was observed for Bonner.

The future of the festival, which started in 1976 and will celebrate its 32nd anniversary next year, will be discussed at the SCMF’s annual general meeting next month. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
